KYC cannot exist without donors and sponsors that overtime funded many of its program activities and projects. Like many local community organisations in most low income developing countries, KYC does not receive government support or funding. It is not a formal public library but a local initiative working to empower young people for their personal development

KYC generates an income through its Library memberships and reading fees and multiple Income Generating Activities such as secretarial services, a small stationery shop, and hiring out of musical materials. However, this income is not enough to cover the monthly recurring organisational costs like salaries, office and administrative expenses, equipment maintenance and utilities. Let alone necessary investments in construction, general maintenance, educational and recreational materials and updating the library book stock. Therefore, KYC continues to look for funding to support its programs activities and projects.

Many individuals that got into contact with KYC particularly, the volunteers contributed not only their expertise and items in kind but also helped out financially, by raising funds to support many activities and the development of the capacity of the organisation. Without recalling all of their names here, books, equipment and furniture have been donated by many committed individuals.
There is no way to express the gratitude or to explain the impact their support has had on KYC’s ability to perform the function it wishes to fulfil in Kawempe community.

This plan is a key programme strategy intended for KYC to engage into social enterprises that will generate income for both social and economic sustainability of KYC while addressing the needs of its target groups. Presently about 80% of KYC funding is from donors and only 20% is internally generated mainly through library user fees and the ICT facility. The purpose of the plan is to engage into viable enterprises that will generate income for KYC’s long life existence and operations so as to realize social and economic impact.

The objectives of the plan are to
1) increase internally generated funds for sustainable programming and operations.
2) reduce on the practice of donor overdependence.
